Civic Pulse Survey

The Civic Pulse Survey is CivicsEDU’s primary data collection tool for measuring the civic education needs and engagement behaviors of residents across the Central Carolinas region. The survey provides CivicsEDU staff with critical insights into local civic activities, barriers to participation, and areas for potential growth. This data is instrumental in shaping CivicsEDU’s programs, outreach strategies, and policy recommendations to better serve the community and strengthen civic literacy and involvement across the region.

How often is the survey administered?

The Civic Pulse Survey is conducted bi-annually from September to November. The 2026 survey will open on Monday, August 31 and close on Sunday, November 22, 2026. Survey results and analyses are made public on our website by the end of the following February.

Who can participate?

The survey is open to all residents of the Central Carolinas region — especially within our impact area. Residents 18 years of age or older are encouraged to participate.

Is there an incentive to participate?

We currently do not offer any financial incentives for taking the survey.

What’s the survey format?

The survey is currently presented in an online format only that uses a mix of multiple choice, Likert scaling, and short answer questions. We hope to employ paper surveys to maximize access in the near future.

What do you do with the information?

The information that we receive from the survey will be used to inform our program development and serve as a public resource for parties that are interested in understanding the civic behaviors of Central Carolina residents. Identifiable information is strictly kept confidential and is not shared with outside parties.
