A Letter from the Executive Director: Resiliency in a Time of Federal Funding Uncertainty

CivicsEDU Executive Director Kaelan Boyd

My Fellow Civic Champions,

In recent news, the current Administration issued a series of executive orders that have resulted in the suspension of federal funding streams critical to the work of many social impact organizations (more widely known as nonprofits) across the country. This sudden policy shift has sent shockwaves through the social impact sector, leaving countless organizations grappling with the immediate and long-term implications for their programs, staff, and the communities they serve.

At CivicsEDU, we are acutely aware of the challenges this creates for our fellow social impact organizations, particularly those providing essential services to underserved populations. The ripple effects of these changes will be felt in education, healthcare, housing, and countless other areas where social impact organizations fill critical gaps.

How This Affects Social Impact Organizations

Federal grants and funding programs often serve as lifelines for social impact organizations, enabling them to sustain their operations and expand their reach. With this funding now suspended, many organizations will face difficult choices—scaling back services, reducing staff, or even closing their doors. This disruption undermines not only the social impact organizations themselves but also the individuals and families who depend on their support.

Fortunately, CivicsEDU has long prioritized a funding model that does not rely on federal dollars. Since our inception, we have been intentional about building a strong foundation of private donations, partnerships, and community-based support. This approach allows us to maintain our independence, uphold our mission, and remain agile in the face of shifting political landscapes.

However, we cannot do this alone.

Your Support Matters More Than Ever

As federal funding uncertainties continue, it is imperative for communities to rally behind the causes they care about. Your contributions—whether financial, in-kind, or through volunteer efforts—make all the difference in ensuring CivicsEDU can continue to provide high-quality civic education and programming.

We are deeply grateful for our supporters who have helped us grow and thrive over the past year. But today, we need your commitment more than ever to sustain our work and adapt to the challenges ahead. Together, we can safeguard the future of civic education and empower individuals to participate meaningfully in our democracy.

How Can You Help?

  1. Donate: Your financial contributions directly support our programs and initiatives. Consider donating today.
  2. Advocate: Share this message with friends, family, and colleagues to raise awareness of the critical role that social impact organizations play in our communities.
  3. Engage: Attend our events, participate in our programs, and stay informed about the issues that matter most.

The road ahead may be uncertain, but with your support, we can navigate these challenges and emerge stronger. Thank you for standing with us and for your unwavering commitment to civic education and community empowerment.

Keep growing,

Kaelan A. Boyd
