It’s been almost a year since we’ve begun building CivicsEDU into the emerging organization that it is now. While we still have a ways to go, we can’t help but take some time to think about what we’ve accomplished so far in this process. We never underestimated the amount of time and effort it would take to build a nonprofit organization from the ground up, but we can definitely say that this is not for the faint of heart!
To us, this journey was about testing our level of passion for the cause that we care very deeply about. That passion is seeing civics education become a focal point in American schools and communities. It’s about promoting the ideals of democracy and equipping young people and adults alike with the tools that they need to be thriving and well-informed citizens. We believe that our zeal is the fuel that keeps us going every day — and we are not slowing down.
Just to give our supporters some insight into what we’re doing during this planning phase:
- We’re excited to have welcomed Emily Conway and Adrian Paila to the team! Emily will serve as our inaugural Deputy Director for Civic Outreach (formerly Educational Strategy) where she will be responsible for developing and managing our Civic Outreach team. Adrian will serve as our Compliance Manager where he will be responsible for advising the Executive Director on matters pertaining to nonprofit compliance and operations. We are truly fortunate to have them serving the cause with us.
- We are still looking for our inaugural Deputy Director for Finance and Development. This role is very important as it will not only manage CivicsEDU’s finances, but it will also be responsible for developing our philanthropic efforts and maintaining relationships with our grantors and sponsors. If you are interested in this role or know someone that is, click here to learn more.
- Our Founder, Kaelan Boyd, is currently on the hunt for individuals to serve on our inaugural Board of Trustees. This particular function is all about relationships and we believe that the best people to serve on our Board are people who believe in what we’re doing and are willing to support this vision. We can’t wait until we’re able to meet our new governing body in the next few months.
As you can see, we’re still actively working to lay down the foundation for a new work in the Charlotte region. No good work goes without its rewards. We are excited about the future and what’s next in store for the Greater Charlotte community. Be sure to follow us on our social media platforms and keep up with us here on our website where we will post regular articles and blog posts to highlight our progress.
Until next time.
