The CivicsEDU Board of Trustees is thrilled to announce the appointment of Christine Edwards Pitkin as its newest member. Voted in by the Board to fill an active vacancy, her term begins immediately and will extend through June 2028.

Christine brings a wealth of expertise at the intersection of local governance, civic innovation, and public engagement. As a former local government professional and the founder of Civility Localized, she has dedicated her career to demystifying governmental processes and designing accessible channels for community participation. Her leadership has centered on a clear, powerful objective: equipping individuals with the practical tools and knowledge required to make their voices heard in public decision-making.

“Joining the CivicsEDU board is a proud milestone for me. I deeply value civic education because it lays the foundation for true, equitable community engagement,” Christine remarked. “I look forward to working alongside this board to ensure more people have the knowledge and tools they need to make a tangible impact in their communities.”

Her background directly reinforces CivicsEDU’s core mission to strengthen civic literacy and foster informed, active participation in public life. Holding a Master’s in Public Administration with a concentration in Urban Management and Policy from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, along with degrees in Sociology and African American Studies from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Christine pairs institutional policy knowledge with a nuanced understanding of social dynamics.

Throughout her career, Christine has consistently led and supported community efforts aimed at advancing equity, transparency, and civic inclusion. Her extensive involvement with local volunteer organizations demonstrates a steadfast commitment to ensuring that governance reflects and serves all citizens.
